Quantity of life and quality of life

Worldwide there are 6 new HIV infections every minute, over 8,000 a day.  For every 2 HIV-infected individuals placed on anti-retrovirals, currently the only means of treatment, another 5 are newly infected.

While a recent report indicates that anti-retrovirals, if given early enough, can reduce the risk of future transmission, encouraging news on the preventative front, anti-retrovirals, even as form of treatment, still require a life-time regime of daily medication carrying toxic side effect.

Clearly other means of treatment for HIV/AIDS is desperately needed.  Re-establishng healthy functioning of the immune system looks to be key and is the focus of our HIV research through the Global Consortium for Immunotherapy.

Human Futures, in collaboration with Hadassah University Hospital, has founded the Global Consortium for Immunotherapy, an international group of dedicated scientists spearheading this immunotherapeutic research now in Phase 2 clinical trials.
