"The reward for a job well done is the opportunity to do more." Jonas Salk

Mr. Nelson Mandela graciously made the rare exception in 2009, stepping outside of his retirement, to accept the inaugural Jonas Salk Prize.

Bridging multiple worlds, this first prize underscores our one world and the importance of personal initiative, selfless commitment and enduring contribution in its stewardship.

To Dr. Salk, love, courage and forgiveness would light the way.  These simple words composed his triumvirate.  May they be carried in the hearts of many through the giving of this, the Human Futures Foundation's first Jonas Salk Prize to Mr. Nelson Mandela.
